Krewes for Karnival’s First Responders is an organization comprised of the New Orleans Parading Mardi Gras Krewes that wish to give back to the First Responders for all they do for the Krewes and the public during the Carnival season. During the two week period of Mardi Gras the men and women of the New Orleans Police Department, New Orleans Fire Department and the New Orleans Emergency Medical Service work many hours overtime and spend many hours away from their families. They all do this to protect the revelers along the parade route and members of the Krewes.
There would not be a Mardi Gras if were not for the NOPD officers who are trained specifically in crowd control, the NOFD personnel who provide fire protection and the men and women of the NOEMS who provide the highest quality pre-hospital emergency care to individuals living in and visiting New Orleans. These hard working individuals keep the peace and keep everyone safe.
The funds generated through our efforts will be used to support NOPD, NOFD and New Orleans EMS. Each year we obtain a “wish” list from each group and we set our fund-raising goals accordingly. In addition our organization provides the “POLICE” signs that are placed on each float in Mardi Gras to be used to alert an officer in case of an emergency on a float. Every five years our organization will sponsor an economic impact study on the effect Mardi Gras has on our community.
